I think the editing is cool, but I prefer the unedited as it is more desert-looking. Perhaps if you duplicated the background, isolated the flowers, and used a burn tool on a third layer with a solid color with 50% transparency, and merge the top two, then make the flower 's opacity 75%, then you could keep the nice effect on the flowers and keep the sand and all else a correct color. You should burn some of the green in the background to make it a brown-red dead color.
Thanks for the critique! I wasn't intending for this to look like a desert—the title is just metaphorical. But I'll keep in mind the advice about layers, since I never really figured out how to use them.
